description:
This dataset provides estimated debris generation from building damage. Building damage classifications are derived from Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR927) and SERTIT rapid satellite mapping and harmonized into three categories: destroyed, damaged, and possibly damaged.

Damage records are matched to building footprints from Google Open Buildings V3 and OpenStreetMap/Humanitarian OpenStreetMap (HOT/OSM) where Google footprints are unavailable. Building heights from the Google Open Buildings 2.5D Temporal Dataset V1 are used to estimate gross floor area.

Debris generation is estimated by applying category-specific coefficients to the estimated gross floor area. For damaged buildings, a coefficient of 0.5 t/m² is applied, while 0.05 t/m² is applied to possibly damaged buildings. For destroyed buildings, the coefficient varies by settlement type to reflect average differences in construction and material characteristics: 3 t/m² in urban areas, 2 t/m² in peri-urban areas, and 1 t/m² in rural areas.

These coefficients are average assumptions applied at the settlement-type level and do not represent building-level assessments of construction materials or debris conditions. The resulting values should therefore be interpreted as indicative debris-generation estimates rather than measured quantities.
